My criticism of the ALR (Agricultural Land Reserve) and how they are potentially going to put a fantastic operation out of business because of policy changes within the ALC.
We, as young farmers need to stop asking the government for help and subsidies because the long term effects create more regulation, taxation, and raise the barriers to entry for new start ups. The ALR was a program set up with the best of intentions to protect farm land and future generations of farmers, but after 40 years, it has achieved the opposite by making it difficult for new farmers to buy over valued ag land and retiring farmers to sell that land. In the video, I outline many other reasons this program has failed to achieve it’s intentions.
